The old vinyl of X stares at me as I listen to this new collection. Pulsing beats return with a few added singles, and a rollup of the older listing. Tracks from the apparently-defunct EMOTIONS EP also feature here, but without vocals--I miss Ruta's singing(can we get it back?). In any case, X's Definitive Collection is probably the most representative cross-cut of ALEX in the core days of New-Retrowave, well worth the price--unless ALEX was good enough to give it to you for free. Basically every song on this album has a structure similar to those on progressive metal albums. You never know what to expect and how the song will shift in the next few seconds. That makes listening to it very interesting. Also, this is probably my favorite sound Glitch Black has used so far. Hard to pick a favorite song though, had to decide between Starcatcher and Forever War. FLESH MECHANIC
